Mechanical Lab Technician

Company Overview: 

We are a growing SME specialising in highly efficient electric powertrains, drives, machines, and inverters for traction applications.

Due to new projects and continued expansion, there is a space for an inspired and motivated Mechanical Lab Technician to join our research and development team in Bicester. You’ll play a crucial role in the research, development, and testing of bespoke applications for a range of automotive customers.

Daily with the team as a Mechanical Lab Technician, you will operate and maintain test rigs, collaborating with Test and calibration Engineers to refine procedures and ensure optimal functioning of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems in the lab.

 Role Overview:

  • Operate test rigs for electric motors and inverters.
  • Support Test & Calibration Engineers in completing and defining test procedures.
  • Maintain test equipment and facilities (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, communication).
  • Ordered and assembled custom PCBs and performed general mechanical duties such as soldering, crimping, fixing, etc. (Mechanical bias).
  • Assemble/disassemble test rigs.
  • Assemble wiring harnesses (LV cables, HV cables, cable shielding, crimping).
  • Assemble/disassemble electrical motors, inverters, and cooling systems.
  • Create standardized engineering test reports and documentation for external customers and product design validation.

Key Responsibilities:

 Practical experience with setting up test rigs and dynamometers. Previous experience with electric motors and inverters is desirable.

  • Practical competence in mechanical assembly, soldering, crimping, and fixing (Mechanical bias).
  • Experience with ordering and assembling custom PCBs (Mechanical bias).
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to offer a creative approach to troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication skills & team-player.

Salary: up to £45,000 depending on experience
