Wave Recruitment

Compound semiconductors sit behind some of the most demanding electronics in defence and commercial systems, and the UK is building serious capability in this space. A County Durham cleanroom, part of an emerging northeast semiconductor cluster, is expanding its process roadmap on the back of significant MOD investment and is looking for an Integration Engineer to help move new technologies from development into volume production.

Company Mission

Developing next-generation compound semiconductor technology for mission-critical applications, manufactured in the UK.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Yield and Integration Manager, you’ll bring individual process steps together into stable, manufacturable flows and support new technologies through development, qualification and production ramp. The role sits across Process, Device, Design, Quality and Production, and shapes how new technology lands in the fab.

What You’ll Own

Process Integration

  • Building and maintaining integrated process flows for new technology introductions
  • Managing the interfaces between process steps and identifying integration risks early
  • Supporting technology gate reviews, process qualification and change control
  • Contributing to the technology roadmap alongside Process and Device Engineering

Trials, Data and Problem-Solving

  • Planning and running engineering trials to demonstrate process capability and manufacturability
  • Analysing process, electrical and yield data for trends and integration-related issues
  • Applying SPC, DOE and FMEA to development work and continuous improvement
  • Supporting root-cause investigation on excursions, yield loss and device performance

Transfer to Production

  • Working with Yield and Process Engineering to improve capability and manufacturing yield
  • Supporting the transfer and ramp of new processes into volume
  • Maintaining integration and qualification documentation
  • Ensuring activities meet quality and EH&S requirements

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Hands-on experience in semiconductor manufacturing or process development
  • Good grasp of wafer fabrication and how process steps interact
  • Process knowledge across more than one manufacturing discipline
  • Experience of process integration, process development or technology transfer into production
  • Ability to read a process change through to device performance, yield and downstream steps
  • Structured problem-solving and confidence working with process, electrical and yield data
  • Working knowledge of SPC, DOE, FMEA and change control
  • Degree in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, Electronics or a related discipline

Useful

  • Experience with III-V compound semiconductors, particularly GaAs or GaN
  • Six Sigma or equivalent process improvement background
  • Track record of coordinating qualification activities across engineering and manufacturing teams
