Facilities Electrical Technician

Job Specification:

Role overview:
Provide high-standard electrical and distribution technician services to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable facilities operations. Work with engineers, technicians, and operators to maintain, troubleshoot, and improve plant performance while minimising disruption to site production.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver planned, breakdown, and minor modification maintenance activities

  • Operate in accordance with CMMS/Maximo systems for accurate record-keeping

  • Diagnose and rectify electrical plant faults, including root cause analysis and remedial actions

  • Inspect and maintain motor control centres (MCCs), electrical distribution, drives, and UPS systems

  • Support process operators and share technical knowledge to develop a multiskilled team

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and DSEAR regulations

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase reliability, efficiency, and reduce costs

  • Participate in problem-solving activities using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, and 8D

Required skills & experience:

  • Time-served electrical maintenance apprenticeship or equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years post-apprenticeship experience in process or chemical plant

  • Knowledge of MCCs, drives, electrical distribution, and plant systems

  • Strong fault diagnosis, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Familiarity with COSHH, method statements, and risk assessments

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently

  • Team player with strong communication skills

Desirable experience:

  • Exposure to continuous improvement projects

  • Experience training or mentoring technicians

  • Multiskilled facilities technician operations

Tools & methods:

  • CMMS/Maximo systems

  • Root cause analysis and problem-solving tools (5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D)

  • Electrical testing and diagnostic equipment

  • Compliance with ISO and safety standards

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Salary: £40,000 + benefits
