Job Specification:

Role overview:

Responsible for the safe operation, commissioning, and performance of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems supporting critical site infrastructure. Plays a key role in maintaining high availability, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience within a complex industrial environment, working closely with engineering and operations teams to minimise risk and downtime.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan, commission, and maintain HV/LV electrical systems (11kV–100V)

  • Carry out HV isolations and control systems in line with legislation

  • Diagnose faults, implement corrective actions, and minimise downtime

  • Support planned and reactive maintenance activities

  • Drive maintenance improvements and eliminate recurring issues

  • Ensure compliance with Electrical Safety, DSEAR, and H&S regulations

  • Oversee contractor activities and system handovers with documentation and training

  • Prepare technical documentation, schematics, and maintenance schedules

Required skills & experience:

  • Experience with HV/LV distribution systems in an industrial environment

  • 10 years’ experience in HV switching

  • Strong knowledge of BS7671 and motor control systems (DOL, Star-Delta, VSD)

  • Proven fault-finding and diagnostic skills

  • Ability to train personnel in electrical safety and authorisations

  • Strong communication and documentation skills

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure

Tools & methods:

  • HV/LV switching and isolation systems

  • Preventative and reactive maintenance planning

  • Electrical schematics and technical documentation

  • DSEAR and electrical safety compliance systems

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Salary: £55,000 – £70,000 + benefits
